Brexit: It’s not too late to to be prepared!

The official Brexit negotiations are to end on 31st December 20201 - whilst last minute details are still to be finalised, with only 10 days to go there is much to be done to prepare to meet the customs requirements for “International” despatches.

The below information will be fundamental to ensuring the despatch of your orders to Eire/Internationally.

Brexit is likely to impact your shipping in various ways:

Importing and Exporting Goods (Eire/EU/International shipping)

Whether you are importing or exporting items to the EU, Internationally or to Northern Ireland (EIRE) it is essential you have the appropriate customs information in place. Choosing the right method and fulfilment company will keep your consignments running with ease as stricter border control is implemented.

For any shipments to/from to Eire you will need the following documentation prior to despatch1:

-         HS Codes

-         Country of Origin for all products

-         GB EORI & XI EORI numbers

-         Item Value (i.e. selling price if bought by a customer)

Your fulfilment company should have already been in contact with you to discuss the information needed. If this isn’t in place you may end up with issues from additional surcharges, hefty return fees or even your consignment being destroyed2. So, it’s essential the correct details are supplied in advance to allow for a smooth journey into the New Year.

If you are a client of MRM and have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch with your account manager.

Delays at the ports and storage solutions

Delays at the ports have been described as the three C’s (Christmas, Covid and Customs)2. Not only have the ports been struggling with the backlog over the past few months, extra issues have arisen this week at the ports with fears of a new strain of Covid3. We recommend clients send their items to us as early as possible, allowing us to despatch earlier in case of any unexpected delays.

It’s also critical to ensure clear communications with your customers to manage their expectations around potential delivery days and by doing so you will minimise the impact of your customers’ services teams.

We also recommend that you also stock up on your best selling items encase of any further delays. We offer a wide range of storage including long and short term and we also offer high value storage options.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch with Mel Sheldon on 01858 414 714 or email [email protected] to see how we can support you and your company into 2021.
